It looks in the world of High Definition DVD the choice has been made, this is the choice made not by Hollywood but the world’s porn industry. It’s quite peculiar I was talking to John a few weeks ago about this very issue, wondering which way the choice would go. Even in that conversation then I said that it would go in favour of which was chosen by the adult industry. Of Course this isn’t final things could happen to drastically change things, for example Song could heavily reduce the costs in Blue Ray but I doubt this will happen any time soon or work heavily to tip the market in there favour by a monopoly on the film studio’s
The only other people to make the decision is the General Public but I am sorry to say that we are very conservative people, the majority of people don’t know the differences so how are they going to make a decision?. We like to feel like we have a choice, when we simply don’t, choices are simply which colour ipod should I get or should I get a car with or without Sat Navigation for example. These minor occurrences that allow the consumer to feel like they have control when really the big decisions are made by people in fancy suits and get paid in company bonds instead of a regular weekly pay. You only need to look a men’s shirts the next time you out partying in your local night club, they are all the same relative bland colours and styles at the moment. The choice you have is should I get the light brown, medium brown or dark brown top which all look the same but have minor changes. Anyway I pushed the point of “choice” far enough you may or may not agree with my argument but I am sorry to admit I’m right, prove me wrong and tell me you don’t own an apple ipod or know somebody very close to you whom owns one. But hey you made the choice to buy one right. (I am seriously getting bored now talking about the ipod).
In my heart I really want Blue Ray to win, I couldn’t even tell you why, I have heard they
have the better quality images but compared to HD DVD they are unnoticeable. Having a Blue Ray drive within the PS3 to me always sounds like a good I idea to take the majority market, but now the Xbox 360 has its add on device HD DVD I am thrown into turmoil again about who is going to come out on top.
So the point is never let the public decide (I can’t, can you?) its simple let an Industry that made greats like Edward Penishands and Shaving Ryan’s Privates they weren’t wrong before, Sony will more likely cry for roughly an afternoon but then suddenly think “Hey Guys We Could Make HD DVDs Too” or “How could we re-brand the Sony Walkman”.
And the average Joe on the Street will never know.
