Tunnel Of Love

I’m not in a loving sort of mood, but recently I have been listening to a quite few love songs. Not these hardcore pop love songs from the 80s, but the more refined stuff. Well OK I’m lying, all the songs are from the 80s but I have nothing to be ashamed about…

In particular I have been listening to Bruce’s Tunnel Of Love album, It’s a very mature, dark, and realistic look at love and all its pitfalls and peaks. It has a lot of depth (something Springsteen is never given credit for) that most modern albums will never possess. Despite its title, there isn’t one sappy love song on the whole thing. While it is still not my favourite Springsteen album (I still haven’t made up my mind which one is), its a one I need a hard copy of in my collection. The album has some brilliant songs from Tougher Than the Rest to Tunnel of Love. Bruce’s voice may not have the edge, the raw power, of Born to Run or Darkness on the Edge of Town, but Tunnel of Love gives us the opportunity to hear a soft, bruised-sounding voice full of longing and hope, and to hear my favourite musician at his songwriting best.

<ashamed> I’ve also got a thing about Romeo and Juliet by Dire Straits, which is very strange. I think its his voice and lyrics in that one though. Although I cant get away with anything else by Dire Straits at the minute. </ashamed>
