Fluorescent light bulbs require 1/3 the energy of traditional bulbs and provide the same amount of light. If every American swapped just one bulb for an ENERGY STAR labeled
one, it would collectively save them more than $8 billion in energy costs and prevent burning 30 billion pounds of coal. The same can also be said for us Brits, Miliband (via) who states that if a million U.K. households changed three light bulbs from ordinary filaments to energy saving bulbs, it would equate to 100,000 cars being taken off the roads for an entire year. Also I’m not entirely sure (or have the heart to go and check) heard something about Australia doing this for real and banning the sale of incandescent bulbs in the next 3 years.
Maybe its time for us to take this approach.
