I’ve always been the sort of person who buys art which invokes an emotional spark (it is the reason why I have Robert Olley’s Coal, Ships, Fish & Chips on my bedroom wall). I love Lowry but that’s only because of the childhood sentiments. I suppose the point I’m trying to raise is that I’ve never bought art farty stuff because I like it, but this could soon change.

The work of Jon Burgerman interests me, I’ve often wondered about wasting a few quid on buying a piece of his work. So today I asked myself why? why do I like it? I seriously can’t say! Rationally it doesn’t make sense, it certainly doesn’t go with my décor, or do I have an emotional connection, I just, well, like it. People say your décor defines you, maybe having one piece of his work on one wall in my house would define me? – Look at his work, you’ll understand or maybe you wont, maybe your not meant too?

Jon I’m just waiting on the correct piece now.

UPDATE : Just as I finished this post, I found this;

By Jon Burgerman this wallpaper is actually a colouring book. This wallpaper can be filled with your own colours as you can see in the picture, so what was I saying about my own décor? This reminds me of what Randy Pausch said about letting your children draw on their walls, I couldn’t see any children that wouldn’t be intrigued with this;

The wallpaper is available now from this store in East Sussex at £40.00 per roll.

It has been rather a dull month here on kylemayne.com, due to my dissertation and exams postings been very slow. Well officially summer is HERE, a period in which I become rather unproductive. So, I line up a few books I want to read, prioritise some DVDs (I’ve decided upon all ‘Auf Wiedersehen Pet’ to start with, although I still haven’t complete Palin yet) and become very repetitive in not doing much. That is normally my summer, yeah you might travel here/there for a few days but it isn’t a big occurrence. I tell work I don’t want to be bothered between Monday to Friday and I slip into doing nothingness.

There’s one big problem with ‘nothingness’, I hate it, it grinds me down, I become more tired doing nothing than studying for exams or completing that handsome twelve-thousand word document. So what can I do about? Well go travelling, but again I find that about as exciting as watching Big Brother on Channel 4. I could become productive, I have been asked to design a website for a company, but again I need some encouragement and currently money doesn’t do that. The problem is that I need to become energetic, getting up earlier on the morning and maybe heading to the gym would do the thing. Not that I’m unhappy with my fitness, just I can’t seem to shake this unmotivated rut I’m currently stuck in. I have quickly become set in my routine and I need to break free of it!

Leave it with me, although I encourage you to leave comments below!

I strolled out of bed this morning well after nine (its my late start day) switched on my laptop and proceeded to the bathroom. On my return to the laptop something was wrong, the screen was filled with vertical different colour lines then they all came together to form a bright white display (very creepy). Something was a foot, so like any other person I switched the damn thing off. That’s all I needed I thought, switched it back on, the same things is happening again. Buggar!

Not to worry I’ll phone Dell, brilliant customer service although I had to wait 10 minutes on hold before anybody would speak to me. Never mind, after speaking to the kind gentleman on the phone, he worked out it was either the display or the graphics card. After trying run some form of diagnosis (from some strange keyboard command), he confirmed its was one or the other. Your an XPS customer, and you get next day business day support he replied, very good I thought but tomorrow is Saturday , what goods that to me?

Anyway an engineer is coming on Monday to deal with the problem, but that isn’t the end of the problem…

I’ve just tried the damn thing again and now its decided to work, I don’t know why and I don’t want to switch it off (I’ve got work to do). I’ll see how it plays up until Sunday night then phone them back to confirm if I still want the engineer to call.

Got to thank Dell, there on the Ball.

Fingers crossed too for this little XPS!

So as the new year swiftly approaches, there is nothing more to say than HAPPY NEW YEAR, 2007 has been a strange and yet enjoyable year for Kyle J Mayne. I’ve attended hospital more times this year than I have in my whole lifetime, started my final year at university and met some amazing new people. I need to be thankful that all my family and friends are in good health and lets hope this carries on throughout the whole of 2008. I did consider doing a yearly review, but HEY as a student, I’m lazy, so aren’t I just living up to your stereotypical views ?

Anyway, I was thinking of the best way to describe 2007, this verse below can also describe the upcoming 2008 or maybe its the constant pressure people feel.

Does this apply to you at all ?

Cant see nothin in front of me
Cant see nothin coming up behind
I make my way through this darkness
I cant feel nothing but this chain that binds me
Lost track of how far Ive gone
How far Ive gone, how high Ive climbed
On my backs a sixty pound stone
On my shoulder a half mile of line.

Thy kingdom come, I’m gonna find my way…

-Kyle

Spending time with the family tonight (at the Vig) and I will update my Picasa web album with new photos tomorrow.
